On Saturday afternoon in Eugene Washington St. lost their 4th straight game losing to Oregon 43-28 and with the loss the Cougars fell to 1-4 in the Pac 12.
Here are 5 reasons WSU lost to Oregon.
1. The WSU defense did not play well - Facing the dynamic offense of the Ducks the Cougars allowed the Ducks to rack up 454 yards with 241 passing yards and 213 rushing yards.
The Cougars gave up some big runs and the 28-yard TD scamper from Kenjon Barner pretty much, iced the game putting Oregon up 43-20 in the 4th quarter.
2. WSU could not stop the big play -The Cougars’ defense not only gave up a 28 yard TD in the beginning of the 4th quarter, but also a 45 yard TD run, had a kick blocked that was returned for a TD and gave up a 93-yard kickoff return after they had cut the lead to 29-20 in the end of the 3rd quarter.

3. Washington State penalties didn’t help - The Cougars hung around for most of the game, but the 10 penalties for 95 yards did not help their cause at all.
4. 3rd quarter Washington State defense - The WSU Cougars were only down 15-10 at the half, but they gave up 21 points in the 3rd quarter and by the time the 4th quarter began the Ducks had a 16-point lead.
5. Turnovers - WSU QB Marshall Lobbestael started under center in the game and while he was 28/48 for 337 yards with a TD he had 2 costly interceptions.
Next Up: Washington State has a good chance to get their 4th win of the season, which would double their win total from last season, in their next game facing a struggling Cal team that has lost 4 of their last 5 games and only has 1 Pac 12 win.
Still, it will not be an easy win since it is an away game and the Cougars only have 1 away win on the season.
